Iron Blocks
Iron Blocks
Iron blocks chain your ankles down,
Tethering you to the earth,
Telling you not to spread your wings,
Shackles clasp your arms,
Angry and tearing at your skin,
No one’s around to hear you scream,
Breaking down with no witnesses,
The iron blocks seem heavier now,
Weighing down your ankles, your soul.
You remember blue skies,
Flying free,
The smell of air not polluted by tears,
What happened between then and now?
You wonder.
Strain against the shackles,
You haven’t learned yet that it’s no use,
That you will never fly again,
You feel yourself buckle to the ground,
No one will come and save you.
