I Know Why the Ostrich Can't Fly
I Know Why the Ostrich Can't Fly
I know why the ostrich can’t fly,
Crippled by fear,
The open skies too large and vast,
I know why it buries
It’s head in the sand.
The darkness can’t hurt you
If you choose it,
That’s what it thinks.
Turning your head away,
Might make it invisible.
It’s still buried in the sand,
Eyes shut against
The sunlight the others birds fly through,
It doesn’t see the sandstorm coming,
Too buried in it’s own regrets,
Wishing for the courage to take to the skies.
Feathers fly alone on the dusty wind,
The ostrich died because it couldn’t fly.
